Why Visit St. John - Here Are 5 Great Reasons
Whether you’re planning a romantic and relaxing vacation with your spouse, or are trying to make the summer memorable with your young or teenaged children, there is something for everyone on this beautiful island.
The Beaches
One of the most popular reasons you’ll see for why you should visit St. John is it’s stunning beaches. Soft white sand that hits on crystal clear water, the beach offers a transcendent experience with undeniable beauty. The Virgin Islands National Park owns most of the shoreline, which means you can visit these world class beaches without condos or restaurants restricting the views.
Snorkeling and Water Sports
Another great reason why you should visit St. John is the underwater paradise. Snorkeling is a great way to see everything that St. John has to offer. The shorelines are calm and shallow, so it’s ideal for first time snorkelers and children eager to explore. Almost every beach in St. John has possibilities for world class snorkeling. See tropical fish, turtles, amazing plant life, and so much more.
There are more things to do in the water besides snorkeling. Boat rentals, parasailing, kayaking and more, the possibilities are endless. At Just Fish St. John, we recommend Dive Low Key and Low Key Watersports.
World Class Hiking
Maybe you and your family are die-hard hikers, and have been daydreaming about a more tropical destination. St. John is two-thirds national park and there are more than 20 hiking trails you can explore that criss-cross the entire island. Unlike most parks where you pay a fee and pass through park gates, this National Park owns parcels of land throughout the island. There is only one beach that charges a fee, all other beaches are free to hike and explore. Though Trunk Bay charges a fee, it also has a concession for snacks and has an underwater snorkeling trail.
Bring lots of water and bring your camera if you’re planning on hiking on your next visit.
Visit Annaberg Plantation and Catherineberg Ruins
We also suggest visiting Annaberg Plantation and Catherineberg Ruins. The Annaberg Plantation is an ancient sugar mill located on the north side of the island and has great walking trails. You’ll be delighted to find ruins and drawings that date back more than 100 years.
The Catherineberg Ruins is a sugar and rum factory from the 18th century. Though there isn’t a lot to explore, it is a great destination if you and your family are choosing to hike. They are well preserved and provide a great photo opportunity as well as give you a sense of how sugar used to be harvested and refined on the island.
